The Cradley, Mathon and Storridge Art Group (CMSAG) held its 4th Anniversary Exhibition in Cradley Village School Hall on Saturday 28h October 2006. It has been a busy year again and we were asked to exhibit at Mathon Parish Hall Coffee Morning and took part in the celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Storridge Church in August.
In the meantime, we managed to get a number of new paintings finished for the Anniversary Exhibition and which were hung in the very nice setting in the hall of Cradley CE Primary School by kind permission of the Head Teacher, Dawn Hyatt. Geoff White has made some very useful and attractive display boards which we first used at Storridge’s 150th Anniversary earlier in the year. They were used in the School Hall to great effect and our thanks go to Geoff for making them.
We took the opportunity to hold a competition at the School and asked for pictures with the theme, "Them and Us". We had a wonderful response from the children, thanks to the encouragement of their teachers, and the "winners" (they were all winners, but we had to choose our favourites!) from each year are included in the pictures attached. Margaret White and Bill Crouch were invited to Assembly the following week and presented the prizes.
We held a Preview Party on the Friday and a good number of guests from the three parishes and members had an enjoyable evening. The next day the ladies from the Group arranged coffee and biscuits in the morning, a ploughman’s for lunch and teas in the afternoon. There were also craft and Christmas stalls as well as a wood carving demonstration from John Harrison and a sculpting demonstration by Ros Rowberry. There was a steady stream of visitors throughout the day and a happy buzz till closing time. Next year we will be at Mathon.
The photos are by Geoff White and the above words by Bill Crouch.
The Cradley, Mathon and Storridge Art Group was formed in August 2002, and meets in Storridge Village Hall on the second and fourth Wednesdays in each month. We now have twenty-four members with attendance around fourteen at each meeting.
We held our first exhibition in Cradley Village Hall, in conjunction with the 2002 Cradley Village Art Challenge, the second in Mathon Parish Hall, and last year at Storridge Village Hall. For this, our 4th Anniversary, we return to Cradley, this time to the school hall.
