2016

BT have completed installation of fibre broadband services for the RIDGEWAY CROSS exchange (01886 88xxxx). See the June 2016 Fastershire newsletter for the latest information and check your line with the BT broadband checker. Test your line with the BT Wholesale Broadband Performance Test.

2015

As a Christmas present Cradley became fibre enabled with superfast Broadband. Initially rolled out as direct exchange lines the updated protocol delivered additional bandwith more reliably and by mid 2016 Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC) was being provided to give better service to outlying areas.

2013

Welcome to Fastershire!

Fastershire is a partnership between Herefordshire Council, Gloucestershire County Council and BT to bring faster broadband to Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.

The project launched at Vantage Point Business Village in Gloucestershire on the 19 March 2013, and at The Three Counties Hotel in Hereford on 20 March 2013.

Speaking at the events Councillor Graham Powell, Cabinet Member Herefordshire Council, said: “This is the first step on our journey to build a network for the future by investing in technology that will future proof our county."

Cinderford, Coleford, Drybrook, Longhope, Lydbrook, Much Marcle, Ross on Wye, Symonds Yat, Upton Bishop and St Weonards are the first ten communities which will benefit from faster broadband.

2011

2005

BT's Big Broadband Break started 8 Sep 05, caused by BT engineers applying a software update to obsolete hardware (the 2Mbps to 8Mbps upgrade). At 15 Jan 06 there was yet another report of an ISP unable to restore a subscriber's service after weeks of trying. This was not an isolated case as BT had 'disconnected' subscribers to avoid bad metrics of 'faulty' lines!

2004 campaign for Broadband

BT Wholesale Thursday 23 December 2004 announced reget to inform us that there has been a change to our Ready For Service date to provide ADSL service. The new date was revised to 23/02/05. The service was available from Feb/March 2005.

2003 announcement

British Telecom announced 28 June that the 01886 880xxx Ridgeway Cross exchange would be Ready For Service by 12 January 2005. The Broadband rollout was announced in the December 2003 Newsletter and the 'We want broadband!' leaflets were delivered to every household. As at 19 November 2003 there were 54 pre-registrations
