Simeon Dookhan. Artificial intelligence in Medical Imaging | in progress.
Simeon Dookhan’s PhD project focuses on integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into medical imaging analysis to advance precision medicine. His research investigates how AI can improve diagnostic accuracy, efficiency, and predictive modeling across various imaging modalities, ultimately enhancing personalized treatment planning. The project also addresses key challenges such as data privacy, bias, clinical integration, and ethical considerations surrounding AI adoption in healthcare.

Jorge Louis Dorminiguez. Low-cost 3D-printed bolus technique using structure from motion in Radiotherapy (MSc-BIPH) | April 2025.
In radiotherapy, a bolus is used to help deliver the right radiation dose to tumors close to the skin. Commercial boluses (flat sheets) often don't fit the body's irregular surfaces (like the nose, ears, etc.), which creates air gaps that reduce treatment effectiveness.
Jorge's project uses optical imaging (like photos taken with a phone) and Structure from Motion (SfM) software to reconstruct 3D models of patient body parts. These 3D models are then used to create customized boluses through 3D printing (using materials like PLA or ABS), without needing a CT scan for bolus design. The goal is to create patient-specific boluses that fit perfectly, minimize air gaps, improve dose delivery, and reduce the need for extra CT imaging, making the process cheaper and safer. Jorge also characterized (measured properties like density, hardness, Hounsfield Units) of the 3D-printed materials to ensure they are clinically suitable. Finally, he compared treatment planning parameters (like dose distribution) between customized 3D-printed boluses and standard commercial boluses.
