Contact CARE is a gentle, hands-on bodywork approach influenced by martial arts and developed by Dale Speedy and Kym Summers. It began in New Zealand in 2006 as a way of working with the body’s natural reactions after sudden impacts and surprise forces.
The method is based on a simple idea: when the body experiences a sudden impact — such as an accident, fall, or shock — it instinctively reacts to protect itself. Sometimes that reaction doesn’t fully release, leaving pressure held in the bones and limiting how the body moves, functions, or adapts over time.
Ongoing strain or stress doesn’t create these reactions, but it can expose them. As the body’s capacity is reduced, previously held pressure from unresolved injuries may show up as pain, tension, or reduced resilience — often in areas far from the original impact.
Contact CARE supports the body to safely release these held responses — known as Flinchlocks — without force or manipulation. Sessions focus on comfort and ease, allowing the body to unwind naturally and rebalance itself.
Originally developed through work with horses, Contact CARE is now used with adults, children, and animals. Sessions are fully clothed, gentle, and non-intrusive. Many people notice increased ease of movement, improved energy, better coordination, or a sense of lightness and relief in the days following a session.
At its heart, Contact CARE helps the body let go of what it no longer needs — so it can function more freely again.
