For all the parts in this section, you will need to know how to make papier-mache paste. There are three ways of doing this. For all the ways you will need water, a bowl, and a scale. You can use glue, which you mix 2:1 glue and water in a bowl until it is smooth. Or you can use flour, which is 1:2 flour and water mixed until it is completely smooth.
You will need a balloon, scissors, newspaper, paint, papier-mache paste, tape, string, glue, tissue paper, and candy.
Inflate the balloon to the desired size and mix the paper mache paste. Cut up or rip the newspaper into strips. Dip the newspaper into papier-mache mixture and place it around the balloon. Depending on the difficulty of the piñata, place 2-8 layers, adding more makes it harder to break. Let the papier-mache dry completely. Cut a square flap in the balloon and pop the balloon. You can decorate the piñata using paint or use glue and tissue paper to add fluff to it. Make sure your flap isn’t sealed shut. Let the paint or tissue paper dry. Poke two holes across from each other around the square hole. Loop the string into the two new holes. Add candy into the piñata and tape the square flap closed. Hang the piñata and have fun hitting it with a bat and collecting candy from it.
You will need cereal boxes for cardboard, newspaper, papier-mache paste, paint, scissors, a pencil, and string.
Cut the cereal boxes to get the front and the back panels. One mask uses one of the sides. Flip the cardboard over to where it is the least decorated. You can either have girls hold the cardboard up the their faces and draw on a pencil where their foreheads and chins are, or draw an estimate on how big it will be. Cut the shape of the face out. Establish where the eyes on the mask will be relative to the girl's face. Cut out eye holes and holes for the nose. Take the extra cardboard to create noses on the masks around the nose holes. If the girls would like to you can create other features with the cardboard. Create the papier-mache paste and cut up the newspaper. Layer about two layers of papier-mache onto the mask, avoiding the eyes and nose holes. Let the paper mache dry. You might have to wrap it on a cylandrol item to avoid warping and so it can fit the face. Placing a fan in front of the mask will make it dry faster.
Once the mask has dried, paint the mask. Once the paint has dried, take a pencil and poke one hole on opposite sides of the mask. Tie a piece of ribbon into the holes and around the girl's head.
You will need a balloon, scissors, newspaper, tissue paper, paint, and papier-mache paste. To add designs to the bowl, you can use napkins with designs on them.
Blow up the balloon to your desired size. Remember, the bowl is only going to be the bottom half of the balloon. Create the papier-mache paste and cut up the newspaper. Layer the papier-mache onto the bottom half of the balloon away from the tie. Keep the papier-mache part up off the floor. Place two layers of papier-mache, and then dip some tissue paper into the paste and place it around the bowl. This makes the bowl look smoother. If you want to use the napkin designs, put them over the tissue paper. Let the papier-mache dry.
Once the papier-mache has dried, pop the balloon and take the remnants out of the bowl. Cut the edge of the bowl so that it is smooth. Paint the bowl and let it dry. Remember that you can not eat out of this bowl; you can only use it to hold things. Fake fruit, jewelry, or trinkets are good things to place into the bowl.
You will need a balloon, tape, scissors, newspaper, paint, marker, recyclable materials for the body parts, and paper mache paste.
Inflate the balloon to the desired size and tape it to the body parts of your pig. Mix the paper mache paste and cut up the newspaper into strips. Dip the newspaper strips into the paste and stick them around the balloon and the limbs. Cover the pig in two or three layers of mache. Leave your pig out to dry. Once the bank has dried, cut a flap in the bottom of the pig and pop the balloon. Take the balloon out of that hole. Cut a coin slot on the opposite side of the bank. Paint the piggy bank and add a face with the markers or other craft supplies you have. You can add a pipe cleaner for a tail by poking a hole with a pen or pencil and inserting it. Curl the tail to make it look like a pig. Once the paint has dried, add tape to the bottom of the piggy bank to keep the opening closed so it can be used as a bank. Painter's tape would work best to prevent damage to the paint when opened.
