Artificial narrow intelligence is A.I that is extremely good at a singular activity. Like reactive A.I, this form is viewed as less advanced in the sense that although it can perform one task on a high level; narrow A.I is limited to only one task. Other more advanced forms like AGI can perform many tasks at the same level as people. Narrow artificial intelligence pulls data from large bases in a way similar to AGI, which it then uses to perform its task at hand. In an article on astutesolutions.com, it covers how bots are a great example of ANI – Bots can answer questions about the weather, nearby locations or even give website statistics and so on. Bots gather data based on information already collected – whether it's from a weather site, a restaurant recommendation engine, or a web analytics platform. The AI then uses that info to give you the information you need (Astutesolutions, 2019). These bots are programmed to do one task, give information, and to do this they use ONLY what they have at their disposal to complete that task.
The importance of ANI in today's world is immense, they save hundreds of thousands of human hours gathering data by using intelligence to grab data from whatever database or system information they have the ability to access. ANI systems allow us to quickly absorb information that otherwise may have taken a vast amount of time to complete. Simple things such as the weather app on your phone could not function correctly without Artificial Narrow Intelligence. Almost the entire population that uses computers has benefited from ANI and may not even realize it. Without this technology, lots of applications and programs would cease to function and many of the daily pleasures we take for granted would be removed.
