Edward Albert Feigenbaum was born on January 20, 1936, in Weehawken, New Jersey. He was an American systems analyst and the most important pioneer in the development of expert systems. An Expert system is a computer program that uses artificial-intelligence methods to solve problems within a specialized domain that ordinarily requires human expertise. I enjoy how you then talk about what he has done in computer programming.

Jürgen Schmidhuber was born on January 17th, 1963 in Munich, Germany. The computer scientist is most known for his work with artificial intelligence, deep learning, and artificial neural network. He is now the Chief Scientist at The Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence Research. He is commonly referred to as the “father of self-aware robots.” He developed the mechanisms that allow us to communicate with our phones and for them to communicate with each other. His current research focuses on developing artificial neural networks that are equivalent to, and eventually surpass the human brain.

In today’s age, Elon Musk is often the first name that we think of when we hear artificial intelligence. Elon Musk is an entrepreneur that was born in Pretoria, South Africa on June 28th, 1971. As a child, he often daydreamed about his inventions and taught himself how to program by the age of 12. Musk moved to Canada in 1989 at 17, where he attended Queen’s University. As a result, he avoided South Africa’s mandatory military service. Elon Musk then obtained his Canadian citizenship that year. He felt that with his Canadian citizenship, it would be easier to obtain American citizenship in the future, via that path. In 1992, Musk began attendance at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received an undergraduate degree in economics and a second bachelor’s degree in physics. He then moved to California and attended Stanford University. Not long after beginning his pursuit for a PhD in energy physics, Elon Musk dropped out of Stanford University.

Musk began a new path, starting his first company just perfectly with the internet boom of 1995, Zip2 Corporation. Impressively, he first became a millionaire in his late 20s. In 1999, Zip2 was purchased for $307 million in cash and $34 million in stock options. On to the next big thing, Musk founded X.com (now Paypal) in 1999. Not long after founding Paypal, in October of 2002, the company was acquired by eBay for $1.5 billion in stock. Elon Musk officially earned his first billion dollars. 2002 was a very successful year for Elon Musk as he also acquired his long awaited United States citizenship later that year.
Today, Elon Musk is in the news because of his two companies SpaceX and Tesla Motors. Elon Musk is now considered one of the richest people in the world, surpassing other AI legend Jeff Bezos in January 2021.

Steve Jobs was born on February 24, 1955, in San Francisco, California. He was “the chairman, chief executive officer (CEO), and co-founder of Apple Inc.; the chairman and majority shareholder of Pixar; a member of The Walt Disney Company's board of directors following its acquisition of Pixar; and the founder, chairman, and CEO of NeXT.” Jobs is seen as the founding pioneer of the personal computer revolution of the 1970s and 1980s. He is forever linked with his business partner, Steve Wozniak, who helped him found Apple Inc. The Duo started off by selling the original model of their computer the Apple 1 in 1976. They gained fame with the Apple 2 as the first company to mass-produce microcomputers. Jobs was then forced out of Apple because of a power struggle with the old CEO, John Sculley. Steve rebounded with NeXT. A computer platform development company that specialized in computers for higher-education and business markets. Jobs became the CEO of Apple Inc. again in 1997 and was responsible for reviving the company from bankruptcy. Jobs succeeded and the company has been in a constant state of growth since. Sadly, he passed away from a tumor at age 56.
Ross Quillian
He was a leading scientist and researcher during the 1960’s in the fields of electronics and communications. He is most know for his work with Project SYNTHEX which was a huge contribution to artifical intelligence. This is because in Project SYNTHEX, Quillian developed the first semantic web that would be used in AI applications. The schematic web will go on to be super important because its a map of words and concepts that the computer can use to understand relations. For example when you think of a word such as seat, your brain understands there to be other words and concepts occiated such as chair, sitting, lounging, etc. Overall this has had a huge impact on providing that necessary map of relational understanding to computers.

Marvin Minsky
He contributed to the field of AI up until his death in 2016. It was Minsky that coined the term “perceptrons” in his groundbreaking work concerning artificial neural networks. Along with that Minsky also created several new models for AI systems and would continue to contribute to other work in the AI field as well. In addition he was valued as an adviser to the entertainment industry, providing expert advice on several projects including Stanley Kubrick’s “A Space Odyssey”.
IBM
They hit a major milestone with the development and the final creation of Deep Blue. This is an artificial intelligence system designed to play chess. The overall goal of Deep Blue was for the AI system to defeat a human chess master for the first time using AI. Deep Blue played against world renowned chessmaster Garry Kasparov and won on February 10, 1996. This would ultimately lead to other types of AI and gaming systems being able to beat human players.
