AGI or Artificial General Intelligence is the most common form of AI; instead of creating a machine designed to be better than a human, create a machine that views itself as equal. As an efficient alternative to artificial super intelligence, AGI can perform human tasks at essentially an equal level as human beings. As of now, we are teaching machines to perform tasks just as we do, though in the future it is possible that AI will reach a level of learning that requires no outside help. In an article by Madhumita Murgia, they add that the next step in developing AI would to be to remove the aspect of having to teach the machine to do a task. AI should be able to learn and adapt in the same ways that a child does using trial and error (Murgia, 2019). Other examples of AGI that are present today would be virtual assistants. Siri, Google assistant and Amazon’s Alexa are tools that use data collected by humans and help humans in their everyday lives; they analyze and feed useful information to the user based on that data. When you ask your IPhone what the weather is looking like in your area, the virtual assistant find your location and gathers information from weather radars and such.
-Pros: can think like a human. Uses flexible thinking and reasoning to solve a specific problem. Can perform tasks without human supervision which may lead to AI doing dangerous jobs that humans usually do.
-Cons: Consequences are unpredictable. Could become opposed to the human race, terminating anything that comes in its path. Humans will be battling AGI over learning capabilities and job placement. Not being able to control the AGI will be the biggest threat if they learn how to control themselves.
