Domain Name System Server Configuration (DNS)
Step 1: Open Server Manager, then click “DNS” on its the right side.
Step 2: Right click on Server then select “DNS Manager”
Step 3: Expand your Server Domain, Ex. Server.berlin.com.
Step 4: Expand “Forward Lookup Zones and your domain”.
Step 5: Expand your Domain, right click on server then properties. Note: server name you see here is the name of your computer
Step 6: On server properties, check the checkbox that say “Update associated pointer (PTR) record”.
Step 7: Right click on Reverse Lookup Zone, the click “New Zone”.
Step 8: On New Zone Wizard, Click Next.
Step 9: On Zone Type, click Next.
Step 10: On Active Directory Zone Replication Scope, Click Next.
Step 11: On Reverse Lookup Zone Name, click Next.
Step 12: On Reverse Lookup Zone Name, Type your Server IP Address on Network ID then click
Next. Note: you can enter up to 3rd octet only. See picture below.
Step 13: On Dynamic Update, click Next.
Step 14: Click Finish.
Step 15: Right Click on created zone then click “New Pointer (PTR).
Step 16: Complete the Server IP Address, ex. 192.168.20.7. After completing Server IP Address, click “Browse”.
Step 17: Click Record Types Drop Down Menu then select “All Records”. Once done, under records, double click your Server.berlin.com.
Step 18: Double click “Forward Lookup Zones”.
Step 19: Double click your domain name, ex berlin.com.
Step 20: Select “Start of Authority(SOA)” then click OK.
Step 21: Click OK.
Step 22: Right click on Reverse Lookup Zone again, then click “New Zone”.
Step 23: On New Zone Wizard, Click Next.
Step 24: On Zone Type, click Next.
25: On Active Directory Zone Replication Scope, Click Next.
Step 26: On Reverse Lookup Zone Name, click Next.
Step 27: On Reverse Lookup Zone Name, Type your current DNS Server IP Address on Network ID then click Next. Note: you can enter up to 3rd octet only.
Step 28: On Dynamic Update, click Next.
Step 29: Click Finish.
Step 30: Right Click on created zone then click “New Pointer (PTR).
Step 31: Complete the DNS Server IP Address, ex. 127.0.0.1. After completing DNS Server IP Address, click “Browse”.
Step 32: Click Record Types Drop Down Menu then select “All Records”. Once done, under records, double click your Server.berlin.com.
Step 33: Double click “Forward Lookup Zones”.
Step 34: Double click your domain name, ex berlin.com.
Step 35: Select “Start of Authority (SOA)” then click OK.
