familiar to the order of operation and use grouping symbols as an operator with integers
evaluate expressions involving integers, including where an operator is contained within the numerator or denominator of a fraction by applying the order of operations
Content:
Students:
apply the order of operations to mentally evaluate expressions involving integers, including where an operator is contained within the numerator or denominator of a fraction
Working Mathematically:
Students:
investigate whether different digital technologies, such as those found in computer software and on mobile devices, apply the order of operations (Problem Solving)
Classroom activities:
1. Brainstorm and bus stop activity
students will:
work in groups of 4
brainstorm, list out and link anything related to the topic Operation with integers or BEDMAS
nominate a student in their group to represent for the bus stop and pick up randomly a number from the teacher and it will be their order number.
each nominator (bus stop) has to say their group idea about the topic (not the same). The next groups have to repeat what the last groups said and then add their own note and the activity will keep going on until the first group repeat all the things that all groups said
the members in each have to help their nominator in memorising.
2. Worksheet practice:
students will work on the worksheet of the order of operation including fraction
