Valle-Rasmus Roots (1994) began his cello studies in Tallinn Music High School with Mart Laas in 2001, which he graduated in 2013 under the guidance of Mart Laas and Henry-David Varema. During his bachelor studies in the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre he has been a student of Henry-David Varema and Marko Ylönen. As an exchange student he has studied with Marko Ylönen in Sibelius Academy and with Wolfgang Boettcher in Universität der Künste Berlin. He has participated in master classes given by Nicholas Jones, Jan-Erik Gustafsson, Marko Ylönen, Francis Gouton et al. From 2011 to 2013 he received the full scholarship and attended the Astona International Summer Music Academy. Currently Valle-Rasmus is studying in the masters programme of Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under Henry-David Varema.
Valle-Rasmus has received prizes in many national and international competitions. He is the laureate of the competition for Estonian young string players (2011, 2013) as well as a laureate of the chamber music competition In corpore (2015) with pianist Auli Lonks. In 2016 he received the Yamaha scholarship. In 2018 he was awarded with the 1st prize in the Baltic String Competition in Vilnius. Valle-Rasmus has performed as a soloist with Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, TMHS Symphony Orchestra, Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra (2016) and EAMT Symphony Orchestra (2017), He is also an active member of many chamber music groups. Valle-Rasmus Roots is currently playing on a 1904 Celeste Farotti cello, kindly on loan from Maivi Kaljuvee and Estonian Foundation of Musical Instruments.
