Silvia Ilves

Silvia Ilves (1992) received her first music lessons in piano and singing from her mother at the age of two. At the age of six she began her cello studies at Tallinn Music High School with Mart Laas. In 2010 she continued her studies at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with Peeter Paemurru, Henry-David Varema and Marko Ylönen.

Silvia has participated in various master classes, performed as a soloist with several orchestras and received prizes from international competitions, among them the 3rd prize in August Dombrovski’s International Competition in Riga (2005), 2nd prize in the International Competition for Cellists in Liezen (2006) and many others. She has also participated in several national competitions and received the 1st prizes in Estonian String Teachers Association’s competitions for young string players (2003, 2007 and 2010) and Cello Competition of Suure-Jaani Music Festival (2009) and the 2nd prize in String Competition dedicated to Eduard Tubin (2015). Silvia took part in the competition Stars of Classical Music (2016), that was broadcasted in the Estonian TV, and received the 2nd prize as well as a special prize from Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Silvia has been a member of many ensembles and orchestras like Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Estonian Sinfonietta and Nordic Symphony Orchestra.

In the last few years Silvia has given many solo concerts and performed with ensemble The Ilves Sisters. In 2016 a CD Ilves Sisters` Classical Favourites was released, where Silvia performs classical pieces with her sister, pianist Liidia Ilves. Since 2018 Silvia has been working in Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. She is an active chamber musician as well and also performs on an electric cello.
