Under the umbrella theme “Collective Fitness”, MUSTAHVEKEYS proposes to make self-observation a creative concept. Guided by artists and experts, participants will create artworks that explore the idea of “self”. A series of three workshops shall be organized, focusing on the following aspects of art creation – conceptualization, technique, and display. Participants will get to know the works of different artists, try out various art techniques, and come to understand the importance of art display and preservation.
Painter and visual artist Lulu Ngie will introduce her unique art practice – the use of simple sketches to outline a person’s body language and human interactions as a reflection on the psyche, mentality, and the “self”. Participants of the workshop will be drawing blind contour self-portraits as they watch their own facial expressions and postures in a mirror, thereby developing sharper senses and becoming more aware of the messages deep inside themselves. Through the process, they will learn how to achieve mindfulness and de-stress.
Participants will learn:
● Mindfulness techniques through the creation of self-portraits;
● The appreciation of self-portrait artworks and the stories behind.
Lulu Ngie expresses the human psyche through a person’s body language and shares her fascination with often unnoticed but powerful parts of our mental world with simple lines and brushstrokes. Her recent solo exhibitions include “The Sensitive Body” at Gallery EXIT in 2022 and “Fictitious Force” at Art Los Angeles Contemporary in 2018. She participated in group exhibitions such as “Minding the G(r)a(s)p” at Para Site in 2022 and “In Search of Absence” at the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong in 2021. Her works have been collected by M+ and private collectors.
MUSTHAVEKEYS, a Hong Kong-based multidisciplinary curatorial studio, serves to build the KEYS that connect the creative minds with the community- KEYS in the form of ground-breaking art and cultural initiatives that generate meaningful exchanges among artists, designers, and community partners; KEYS forged with partners to champion multidisciplinary collaborations from concept to final creation; and KEYS for the public to open doors to unconventional cultural engagements and art appreciation.
In 2020 and 2021, MUSTHAVEKEYS curated the two editions of “Up Close – Hollywood Road”, a first-of-its-kind exhibition that took contemporary art into the everyday environment and operation of local antique shops, creating dialogues between past and present, arts and traditional crafts.
