The aurora
So big and fierce, even the heavens it could pierce
The aurora
Now small and stuck, has lost all of its luck
The aurora
Once so beautiful and vast
It’s full pride, still trapped in the past
The aurora
Glimmering bright as the day
No matter how small
Will never go away.

Science Behind the Poem
We basically made a mini aurora borealis in a bottle. The bottle has barely any air in it and contains two metal electrodes. Electrodes are a conductor that electricity enters or exits something or somewhere. A high voltage is sent through the bottle, causing the leftover gas and electrons to crash into the glass, which creates a green glow. I got the idea for the poem when I saw how small the little green beam of light was, compared to what an actual aurora would look like.
I hope you read this poem imagining that you yourself are the aurora.
