Statement
I hope you notice how the ocean symbolizes the rise and fall of love, showing how something once peaceful and comforting can slowly turn into heartbreak.
Science
My poem stemmed from the picture of the Butterfly Nebula. The nebula covers over 3 light years in space with a temperature of approximately 250,000 C. The nebula is the result of a dying star which is known as a planetary nebula.
To me, the nebula looks like two worlds separating and the "colors" of each other are still going with one another. The death of the star can also be symbolized as the falling out of two people, breaking away from each other which was once beautiful. The colors of the nebula are meant to represent memories of each other being attached to that person when they leave someone behind. The Butterfly Nebula looks freeing, yet, so much time and effort is in that nebula. Same as a relationship, you pour time and effort into someone and the splitting between two people can be ground breaking.
Shaded Love
The object is not a magnet, it’s our hands
Gripping tighter as we begin to separate
Like the whites and blues of the ocean waves
It seemed peaceful at first
As if we were sitting on the beach
You were my umbrella that protected me
From the unpleasant thudding of the world
The silkiness of your skin
Suddenly turned rough like our love
A love you wish for in movies
But isn’t perfect in the end
The ocean breeze blew my thoughts around in a whirlwind
As I tried to keep the innocence of you
Now I stare at you
Reminiscing when the waves crashed quieter
The crystals weren't shattered into a million puzzle pieces
Back when the breeze felt gentler
And the silk of your skin
Kept me at peace
As if we were forever
