Music Video

Procedure

1. Recap the last activity and have students log in to the Scratch website [if they have accounts].

2. Watch Video 1 and provide the Starter Project link in the chat.

3. Recap student instructions:

   1. • Click the green "Remix" button to save the program to your account

      • Name it "Music Video"

      • Delete the Scratch Cat

      • Click "Stage" [bottom right corner]

      • Click "Sounds" explore sounds from sounds library or upload a song from your device.

4. Allow students independent time to complete the aforementioned instructions.

5. Watch Video 2 and recap student instructions:

   1. • From the "more blocks" menu, click make a block and name the new block "grow"

      • Add blocks to the Define Grow stack to tell the computer what the Grow block should do.

      • Use the new "Grow" block, along with a "when green flag clicked" event and a forever loop, to make the sprite grow and then shrink

6. Allow students independent time to complete the aforementioned instructions.

7. Check in with students as they complete their projects.

8. Students may choose Add-ons to enhance their project [see videos below].

9. When there are five minutes left in class, instruct students to share the link to their project in Scratch or present their screen and share their code with the class.

10. Discuss the activity and facilitate a brief discussion about what students learned and experienced.

• Question 1: What was your favorite part of this activity?

• Question 2: How do you make a new block in Scratch? [answer: Go to the "More Blocks" menu, and make a new block].

• Question 3: What do you need to do before using your block? [answer: You need to "define" your new block].
