Dance Party

Procedure

1. Introduce coding. Ask students to share what they have heard or may already know about coding [aloud or in the chat].

• • In computer science, code is specific instructions given to a computer or robot to complete a task or set of tasks.

2. Recap the last activity and block coding.

3. Watch Video 1 and Video 2 [see below].

4. Provide the link(s) to each starter project in the chat. Explain that students may choose any of the starter projects [each project has a different Sprite or character]. If students have an Scratch account, they may also sign-in [optional].

5. Give students 5 minutes of independent coding time to

• Create a "Dance Party" project in Scratch.

• Make Cassy look like she is dancing.

• Make Cassy keep dancing forever.

• Control the speed of Cassy's dance.

6. Instruct students to share their progress in the chat or around the video grid.

7. Watch Video 3 and Video 4 [see below].

8. Give students 5-10 minutes of independent coding time to

• Use the "glide" block to make Cassy move.

• Make the dance start when the green flag is clicked.

• Select the stage.

• Choose a music loop for Cassy to dance to.

• Use the "play sound until done" block to make the music loop play.

• Make the music loop play forever.

• Make the music loop start playing when the green flag is clicked.

9. Check in with students as they complete their projects.

• Identify students who are struggling with the "glide" block. Refer to the video, and show students how to drag the sprite to a location, then drag out the "glide" block to mark that location. Or refer them to Video 3 again.

10. Advanced students may choose to enhance their project with one or more Add-ons [see below].

11. Allow student(s) to share their screen and code with the class.
