Students will use code to join Anna and Elsa as they explore the magic and beauty of ice. They will create snowflakes and patterns as they ice-skate and make a winter wonderland that they can share!
Students will learn about block coding and practicing using code.org.
Introduce coding. Ask students to share what they have heard or may already know about coding [aloud or in the chat].
In computer science, code is specific instructions given to a computer or robot to complete a task or set of tasks.
Introduce block coding.
Block-based coding utilizes a drag-and-drop learning environment, where programmers use coding instruction “blocks” to construct animated stories and games. It’s an entry-level activity, where kids can gain a foundation in computational thinking through visuals as opposed to coding that is based in text.
Watch Frozen Hour Of Code Introduction video [see below]
Demonstrate how to complete Frozen Puzzle 1 and ask for students to guess which blocks should be used.
Consider having a student share their screen and complete Puzzle #2 with the class
Allow students to work independently on Frozen Puzzles 1-5 [10-15 minutes]
Students can come back and share their progress with the group.
Challenge students to explore the code.org website and create an account [if they have an email address].
