During my fall 2021 semester at SUNY Potsdam in Canton, New York, I was the second Korva Coleman Intern at North Country Public Radio (NCPR), an NPR affiliate in the Adirondacks. There, I learned the technical aspects of audio journalism, including strong, evocative radio writing and advanced audio editing using Adobe Audition.
I participated in daily NCPR newsroom meetings, which set the day’s agenda, pitched stories of regional interest and produced audio and multimedia stories for broadcast.
This experience, especially during a time when COVID-19 was at an all-time high and both classes and the internship were primarily remote, ultimately shaped my audio production skills to this day.
