In my final semester at Stony Brook (spring 2024), I wrote a long-form investigative/enterprise story on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on music education on Long Island, New York. Through interviews with students like 14-year-old Victoria Duran, educators like Mike Desroches and Kevin Carmody, the legislative director for Assemblymember Kimberly Jean-Pierre (D-Babylon), I explored the challenges facing music education. The story, featuring written content, data visualizations and photographs, showcases the struggles these individuals continue to face.
