Magna Carta

The Magna Carta is one of the most important document guaranteeing human rights.
Some accounts of the history of the Magna Carta overlook the place of the church. In particular, Stephen Langton's installation as the Archbishop of Canterbury was a major catalyst but Langton was also instrumental in the "peace talks" between King John and his barons, culminating in the signing of the Magna Carta, which Langton may have had a hand in writing.
The first and last clauses in the Carta guarantee the freedom of the church.
