1625: Death of James VI/I, accession of Charles I.
1633: Charles I crowned in Edinburgh, Anglican practices introduced.
1637: Anglican Prayer Book introduced, leading to riots, including the famous incident with Jenny Geddes in St. Giles Kirk in Edinburgh.
1638: The National Covenant is signed in Greyfriars Kirk, Edinburgh, opposing Charles I's religious policies.
1639-1640: The Bishops' Wars, conflicts between the Covenanters and the Crown over religious and political control.
1642: The English Civil War begins.
1643: Solemn League and Covenant signed, bringing the Covenanters into the English Civil War on the side of Parliament.
1646: Charles I surrenders to the Scots at Newark.
1660: Restoration of Charles II, leading to increased persecution of Covenanters.
1666: Pentland Rising, an uprising by Covenanters.
1678: The Highland Host, a deployment of Highland troops to suppress Covenanters.
1679: Rutherglen Declaration, a public declaration by Covenanters, and the Battle of Bothwell Brig.
1680: Sanquhar Declaration, a more radical declaration by Covenanters.
1685: Death of Charles II, and the beginning of "The Killing Times".
1688: The Glorious Revolution, which led to the end of the persecution of Covenanters.
1690: Presbyterianism re-established as the established church in Scotland.
