About the English Chess Federation (ECF) and Ratings
The English Chess Federation (ECF) is the main organisation that supports and promotes chess across England. It helps players of all ages enjoy the game, improve their skills, and take part in tournaments.
When you become an ECF member, you receive an official chess rating – a score that shows your progress based on your tournament results. As you play more rated games, your rating grows and reflects how your chess skills are improving!
An ECF Gold Junior Membership is only required if you take part in ECF- or FIDE-rated tournaments. This allows your games to be officially rated and lets you compete in regional, national, and international events.
