About Hindu Samaj Swindon
Hindu Samaj Swindon (HSS) was established in 1973 by migrants from East Africa and India seeking to build a supportive community that connects their new lives in the UK with their cultural and spiritual heritage. Since its inception, HSS has grown into a vibrant hub for cultural, educational, and social activities, welcoming individuals and families from all backgrounds.
The organisation offers a wide range of community-led initiatives, including:
Cultural Celebrations: Hosting events such as Diwali, Navratri, Janmashtami, and Sharad Poonam Garba, which bring together members to celebrate traditional festivals.
Educational Outreach: Providing school visits to educate students about Hinduism and Indian culture, fostering understanding and inclusivity.
Health Awareness Initiatives: Organising events aimed at promoting health and well-being within the community.
Youth Engagement: Offering activities like chess clubs and other youth-focused programmes to engage younger members in constructive and enjoyable pursuits.
All activities are volunteer-led, ensuring that the community remains at the heart of everything HSS does. The organisation operates from the HSS Centre located at Wyvern House, Theatre Square, Swindon SN1 1QN, providing a welcoming space for all.
