General Background (some details shift for verse, or individual interactions as needed.)

Nico grew up in an unstable home. He is the older brother to Levi. Their father was only consistently around for the first 5-10 years of their lives (verse dependent), and was heavily abusive towards not only them but their mother as well. Once Nico was a teenager, anytime their father would come around he'd step in to take the brunt of the abuse, often acting out on purpose to force his attention to be focused on Nico rather than Levi or their mother. He would often try this even as a small child, but there simply wasn't much he could do until he got bigger.

Their mother has bi-polar, and struggles pretty heavily with depressive episodes and swings of mania. Nico stepped up from a young age to help make sure she took her medications, got out of bed, etc. 

Demon:

 Something always existed beneath the surface; something that felt dark and cold- chalked up to some form of mental illness, until he finds out that his dad was a literal demon.
