IES VIRGEN DE LA SOLEDAD (PILAS)

Spain

Our school is a public school from a small town in the South of Spain, next to Seville. lt's close to a National Park so it's an urgent need for us to lave and protect the environment. We are 50 teachers in total and about 600 students, The teachers who will be implied in the project are from many different areas. We also intend to enrol the most quantity of students and families as possible to work in such an important issue.

All our students study English and most of them also study French. Until students are 16 schooling is compulsory; after that, they can attend post-compulsory education from 16 to 18 or some professional training. The students who are in post-compulsory education can choose among three difierent options: science, classic languages and social sciences, Some of the students of this age come from some villages nearby. We also have a group who does professional training following a bilingual programme. They are learning how to work closer to nature by means of an environmentally-friendly approach to a possible touristic explotaition of our a area.

We have been participating in a local environmental programme from three years until the present moment. lt has implied the cooperation of a large number of members of the educational community, and we can say that it has been a real success. We have done recycling workshops and seminars and we have also put some of these ideas into practice. Since this project started, our school looks cleaner and the students are much more aware of the environmental problems and their possible solutions. We intend to keep working in this direction and joining this transnational project could be of great help to achieve our goals.

The teachers who participate in it, have a long experience in working with secondary students and are already quite aware of the need to protect our planet. Thus, they have been both learning and teaching how we all can improve in that way.
