Why Shooting Sports?
4-H has a culture of youth development. We want kids to WANT to learn life skills and what better way than to Learn By Doing. Our volunteers desire to see youth, who are the future of shooting sports, continue responsibly and safely. If your child has never handled a firearm, it’s okay. We will go over fundamentals and give them the proper attention until they feel comfortable. Be honest about their experience. We want nothing but safe, enjoyable experiences to build on what they know at our meetings.
Chandler Hot Shots youth will learn:
Decision-making, teamwork, self-discipline, self-confidence, and problem-solving
Promote the highest standards of safety, sportsmanship, and ethical behavior
Encourage an appreciation and understanding of natural resources
Develop leadership abilities
Build character and willingness to assume citizenship responsibility
Furnish enjoyable, positive relationships with peers and adult instructors
Learn fundamentals and skills for target shooting, hunting and archery
In 4-H Shooting Sports:
8-10 year olds are considered Juniors
11-13 year olds are considered Intermediates
14-19 years old are considered Seniors
****For example, in the October 2025-Aug 2026 year, if you turn age 14 as of January 1, 2026, you would compete in Seniors. If there is a match or competition you attend that is before Dec 31, 2025, or before, you would compete in Intermediates.
RECORD BOOKS
At the end of the year, we highly encourage you to create a Record Book that documents and commemorates all you have done and accomplished throughout your 4-H year in Shooting Sports. If you need ideas or inspiration, go to the Extension Page for 4-H. Take the summer to create it and turn it in to the 4-H Extension office (check for due dates) and possibly win some prizes. Don't worry, you get your Record Book back for your keeping. Start now by journaling your practices, what disciplines you are interested in, pictures, matches, community events and other outside events you attended with 4-H. The possibilities are endless.
Here is where to start. 4-H Shooting Sports Record Book Info
