Who is this course for?

This qualification is aimed at adults who are thinking of working in a school setting. It prepares you for further learning and training whilst helping you to develop an understanding of the teaching and learning environment in a school setting.

Course content

This qualification is aimed at a adults who are thinking of working in a school setting. It prepares you for further learning and training whilst helping you to develop an understanding of the teaching and learning environment in a school setting.

It covers areas such as how to support the well-being of a child or young person and child and young person development.

To achieve the Award the you must complete 3 mandatory units:

Understand schools as organisations
Understand how to keep children and young people healthy, safe and well
Understand how to communicate with children, young people and adults.

This is a knowledge-only qualification. You do not need to be working or undertaking practical placements to take this qualification.

Entry requirements

There is no requirement for any specific prior learning.
Working with you, we will carry out an initial assessment to ensure that we know and understand your starting points for this course.
If you've already completed a functional skills course and want to study for the next level, please bring your certificates with you when you come in for your initial assessment.

How you will be assessed

This qualification will be internally assessed using a range of methods, which could include written assignments or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams, or setting up an information board.

Progression

You can progress onto the Level 2 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning.
