Subject: HB-5108
Dear Senator Lopes and Representative Parker,
In August 2023, a local, grassroots effort formed to create awareness surrounding plans to build a one and a half million square foot data center in Waterford. As a constituent of Senator Martha Marx and Representative Nick Gauthier, I remain deeply concerned about the issue of sound emissions from the proposal.
Our local officials are ill equipped, and our noise ordinances are outdated, leaving residents vulnerable. I am pleased that Representative Rebecca Martinez is Sponsor of HB- 5108, "An Act Concerning the Regulation of Industrial Low-Frequency Pollution," and that Representatives Fortier, Demicco, Menapace and Poulos, along with Senator Martin are co- sponsors. Combined, their interest spans six districts. Given broad support I respectfully request that you raise HB-5108 for discussion in the Environment Committee.
The threat posed by unhealthy, intrusive sound emissions is growing rapidly. Outdated standards and practices for controlling them need to be updated with laws passed at the state level.
Sincerely,
Bryan Sayles Quaker Hill
