Make a weekly schedule to organize your time. Using paper or a spreadsheet application on the computer, create a chart that can help you with organizing your activities. Schedule in the activities you need to do, but also schedule in time to have fun and build relationships. Click here for a printable Weekly Schedule you can use.
Goals can either be short-term, meaning that you want to achieve them within a short amount of time (a couple of days or weeks) or long-term, meaning that you want to achieve over a long period of time (one month or longer).
Short-term goal: Get a B on my next history test.
Long-term goal: Gat all A's and B's on my next report card.
Researchers have discovered that in order for goal setting to be effective, goals need to be specific, measurable, and achievable.
Specific: I will get a B in math this semester.
Not Specific: I will do better in math.
Measurable: I will raise my hand 3 times today.
Not Measurable: I won't be so shy in class.
Achievable: I usually get all C's on my report card, but I'm going to get two B's.
Not Achievable: I usually get all C's on my report card, but this semester I will get straight A's.
If you are finding it difficult to complete your homework, here are some tips that may help you:
Spend more time. This may mean prioritizing homework over other activities.
Get help from a parent/guardian, classmate, teacher, or by attending Knight Discovery (at KJH Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:15-4:15).
Find a place to do your homework. Ideally, have a place that is well-lit and free of distractions. Working at a desk or table can help you stay more alert than working while sitting on a couch or laying on a bed.
Turn off the TV or remove things that are distracting. Place your phone on Do Not Disturb mode or put it in another room.
Be focused while you are doing your homework. Challenge yourself to stay on task rather than letting your mind wander.
Start working on your homework earlier so you will have enough time and energy to finish it.
Know the assignments and have all the materials you need. Keep notes on what your teachers expect you to do for homework.
