Inpatient Diet and Nutrition Order Changes - Information and Supports

Effective December 2, 2025, all Connect Care inpatient diet and nutrition orders are being updated to improve patient safety and standardization, and to update diet options. The orders are being updated with new content, display, and functionality. These changes impact all inpatient and Continuing Care settings. As these changes will break personalization, prescribers will have to re-personalize affected order sets.

The CMIO Prescriber Experience and Training Team is committed to supporting you through these changes, and will be holding virtual office hours over the first 2 weeks of December via our Virtual Drop-In Centre. See below for details and other available supports.

Key Changes and Prescriber Action Required (click to expand/collapse)

Dietitians will champion the below diet and nutrition order changes. Prescribers can support these changing by updating the "Diet and Nutrition" section of their personalized order sets. When diet or nutrition changes are required, prescribers should place new orders using the browse or system order sets - avoid modifying or re-ordering old orders from the order history.

Key changes include:

Diet Message is retired and replaced by New Diet Preference and Tray Alteration orders (i.e., Early/Late Trays, No Meal Tray, and Bagged Meal/Kit).
Snacks now include new questions and reportable content.
Adult and Pediatric diets updated with new diet options (i.e., 3g CHO Test Diet, Safe Tray, Vegetarian Lacto, Vegetarian Ovo, Pescatarian, and Vegan).
Enteral Feeding, Oral Nutrition Supplements, and Calorie Count orders updated for frequency, expiration function, and display.
Standardized Patient Food Services reports and updates to Patient Lists, Nutrition Order Print Groups, Preference lists, and Order Sets.

Virtual Drop-in

The Virtual Drop-in Centre provides support via an ongoing Zoom call. To access, go to virtualhelp.connect-care.ca using a computer or smartphone, or via the QR code on this page using a smartphone camera for audio-only help. From a computer, you can show your desktop if required and, if your computer does not have a microphone, there is an option to have the Zoom session call your smartphone. The Virtual Drop-in Centre will be available:

December 2, 2025, 14:00–16:00
December 4, 2025, 10:00–12:00
December 9, 2025, 15:00–17:00
December 11, 2025, 11:00–13:00

Note that, if you attempt to access the Virtual Drop-in Centre outside of the above-noted hours, Zoom will say "waiting for host to start meeting". If you require support outside these hours, please call the Help Desk.
