Foundations of Cognition and Development
This course explores major theories of learning, cognition, and human development across the lifespan. Emphasis is placed on understanding cognitive, behavioral, and social-developmental models and their application to educational settings. Students analyze research, engage in discussions, and complete written and collaborative projects that connect psychological theory to classroom practice.
Research Assignments
Students completed two journal article summaries analyzing current research in learning, cognition, and development. Each assignment demonstrated the ability to interpret scholarly findings, connect them to major theories, and apply them to educational practice.
Critical Article Review
This project required selecting and critically evaluating a peer-reviewed article related to cognitive or developmental theory. The review assessed the study’s research design, theoretical grounding, and relevance to understanding how humans learn and develop.
Final Research Paper / Group Presentation
For the culminating group project, students collaborated to synthesize course concepts into a research-based presentation. The project showcased an applied understanding of learning and developmental theories through analysis, peer interaction, and scholarly discussion.
