THE CAULDRON GODS
AND NAMES OF MYTH
SILVERPELT - MAJOR GOD
The Mother of Cats, the Sky Above, She Who Holds The Gods. Silverpelt can be seen every night simply by looking upwards. The blue-purple darkness of the sky is her fur, and shining within it are the stars that compose the Constellation Gods. She keeps watch over the world below with one magnificent eye, also known as the Moon. Her silvery gaze is that of healing, of purification, and so no darkness that it passes over will be Starving. It is unfortunate, then, that Silverpelt must occasionally sleep, her magnificent eye falling shut and a terrible night of Gone Moon following. Silverpelt is an ancient being, friend of the Great Tree. Though once tireless, Silverpelt’s loyalty to the Great Tree inevitably ended in injury, so severe that it saps at her strength as she attempts to heal.
BRIGHTEYE - MINOR GOD
The son of Silverpelt who watches over the Clans so that his mother may rest. When Brighteye opens his magnificent eye, the rising of the sun, the Starving Dark is chased away to hide wherever it can. He was created to ward off the loneliness Silverpelt felt, alone in the sky, before the constellations joined her upon her pelt.
DREAMTREKKER - MYTH
Legend states that if one finds themselves lost in the Veil, the soft voice of Dreamtrekker may aid the lost soul in returning to their plane of reality... Not much is known of this neutral being, and perhaps they wish to keep it as such.
LUCKYSTRIKE / LUCKYLEAP - MYTH
A trickster hero of legend whose origin differentiates from tale to tale. From a founder that time forgot to a courageous hero who fought against the Starving Dark in times of old, regardless of what nursery tale one is told, the one and only certainty regarding this kindly being is the assurance of their existence itself. Some cats swear to the stars above that they recount receiving advice from the ever elusive deity, often appearing as though they’d always belonged; a sudden fifth voice in a hunting party of four, an extra apprentice in the training hollow taking notes from their peers, an occupied nest that was empty the night before. Even though their visage fails to fit the Clan they appear in, their upper face perpetually cast in shadow, Luckystrike never looks out of place. Their appearance is regarded as an omen in most Clans, as the counsel they give in these scenarios always directly coincides with a situation the receiver is about to find themselves in. Despite being hailed as a trickster deity, Luckyleap is widely regarded as a benevolent being, their warnings and guidance always serving to aid the affected party rather than endanger them.
BLACKHOLESUN, SOLSTICECRY, AND NOVABLOOM - MYTHS
When the sun is shining but rain falls from the clouds, it is said to be Solsticecry as he mourns the loss of his lover. But who is that lover? Blackholesun is his name, and record states he was the first casualty of the Starving Dark. The Starving Dark’s next victim would come soon after Blackholesun. It is said that his sibling, young Novabloom, was dragged down to Below The Roots in an effort to save their older brother, who they oh-so adored. Blackholesun, Solsticecry, and Novabloom were founding cats of the Cauldron Clans, though which Clans they belonged to has been lost to time. While not a Witch, Blackholesun was the father of herbal and practical medicine in the Cauldron.
THE CONSTELLATION PANTHEON
The bright stars that glitter in Silverpelt’s fur are not merely beautiful pinpricks of light, but rather the protective gods that serve as guardians for the mortal cats down below. Once mortal themselves, these starry deities performed astounding feats in their life times that earned them an eternity of divinity. These feats were ones that were done for the good of the Cauldron Clans, acts of protection or betterment. The divine eternity awarded to these cats is for the purpose of them continuing to act for the good of the Cauldron Clans. Being chosen by the Great Tree itself comes with immense responsibility, the war against the Starving Dark made never-ending. So powerful are the gods that they have ascended the confinements of time, able to see past and future, no longer existing in the present. It is from the gods that StarClan receives the prophecies they share directly with the Witches and Leaders of the Cauldron. It is due to this power that the gods must interact and guide the living through StarClan, lest they shatter not only living minds but the precarious balance of the Veil. Once cats but no longer, they do not communicate nor feel as the living and now-dead do.
