Masters and Minions
Overview
Masters and Minions (M&M) is the Battletech Premier event for the convention season. This event is only run once a year at Gencon and is always on Saturday night.
The idea behind Masters and Minions is to give players a chance to play with and talk to some of the movers and shakers of the Battletech Universe. It is also a chance for the Masters to take some time out of their busy convention schedules to actually relax and play a game. So, it is a win-win for everyone. We try to bring together Masters from all aspects of the Battletech universe.
This is also a kill and keep type event. The mechs the Masters use are excellently painted and every player will go home with 1 painted miniatures.
The lead agent for M&M is Mary Kaempen and questions about this event can be directed to her at DemoTeam@CatalystGameLabs.com
M&M at Gencon
4 players piloting 1 mech each will play against 2 masters piloting 2 mechs each creating a 4 vs. 4 battle.
Sign-up for team pairings (and to fill any available seats that might occur with generic ticket holders) starts at noon on Saturday of Gencon.
If you want to play with a specific other player or with an entire team of 4 make sure to send 1 of your teammates to sign-up at noon on Saturday or else slots might fill up such that we can't get you all on the same table. Although we do our best, we cannot guarantee that players will get to play on the same table as specific other players.
You do not need a friend or teammate to play in this event. In fact, individual players are much easier to slot into tables so it is preferred.
Players cannot sign-up for a Master team they played the previous year unless there are no other slots available.
Master teams are being labeled as "casual" or "competitive" to better meet the expectations of players.
Competitive: Masters who are very good at the game & intend to make it very difficult for players to win.
Casual: Masters whose game play is just focused on lighthearted casual play & want to focus more on just talking & having relaxed game.
To facilitate the starting of the event players can submit their mech choice either by e-mail (demoteam@catalystgamelabs.com) or in person anytime before the event starts.
Any mech (no non-mechs) that there is an official CGL record sheet available for is usable for either a master or a player. However, mech choices are kept secret until the start of the event. So part of the mystery/strategy is what mech to choose. If you pick something with a very high BV you run the risk of the other people on the table being very low BV & thus your unit being worse than standard pilot. Conversely, if you pick something with very low BV & the rest of your table ends up as a high BV you might end up as a 0/0 but still under BV comparatively. So, pick strategically.
Record sheets will be provided at the event with the appropriate pilot/gunnery
Players are welcome to bring their own mini to use if they want or else we will have minis that players can borrow to use for the event

Short
Our premiere event! Come play with the creative forces that bring the whole universe to life!
Long
This is a great opportunity for fans of the Battletech Universe to actually play Battletech with the authors, artists, developers, and other movers and shakers who bring Battletech to life. 2 masters play together as a team against 4 players who are playing as a team. Each master gets 2 mechs while each player brings 1. This creates a game of 4 mechs on 4 mechs which will be played on 2 hex maps. Players also have the opportunity to keep the minis of mechs of the masters that they kill. Players do not need to bring their own minis to the game but can if they like (the masters will not keep the player minis if the master kills the mech). This year master teams will be listed as competitive or casual so we can better match up the level of play desired by the players and masters. Players are encouraged to submit their mech choice prior to the event.
