Beginning Dance I (005312 BG PE DNC6-8) for grades 6 - 8 offers a semester class for students with little or no dance experience. Students learn the fundamentals of jazz, ballet and creative dance while focusing on alignment, warm-ups, isolations, and beginning jazz techniques presented as movement combinations and short choreographed routines. Basic vocabulary incorporating turns, jumps and positions are taught along with the tools of choreography including asymmetrical/symmetrical design, levels, and percussive/sustained qualities. Each student creates an original dance project; presentations are performed both individually and in small groups where students develop self-expression and gain team building skills.
Performances: Classroom and concert at the end of the semester.
