Cartier Senior Citizens Support Committee

Cartier Senior Citizen Support Committee had its beginnings in 1984, where it began as a resource council, comprised of residents from St Eustache, Elie, and St. Francois Xavier, in response to government supports that were being implemented by the provincial government. The mandate was to assist seniors to remain independent, and to remain in their own homes for as long as possible, thus freeing up space within the healthcare system. Funds were made available to Manitoba Health, who then accepted applications from various organizations in order to meet the needs of seniors in each community. This funding was provided for the hiring of staff, and the delivery of programs to assist seniors in staying in their own communities. This resource council became Cartier Senior Citizens Support Committee and was incorporated in 1989.

As of 2021, the CSCSC remains a non- profit charity organization that operates on funding as provided by Manitoba Health, and distributed by the Regional Health Authority Southern Health-Sante Sud. The CSCSC also receives funding from an annual grant provided by the RM of Cartier, and is provided with office space in the Cartier Health Center. Fundraising occurs on a regular basis to meet any organizational needs not met through government or private grants.

The vision and determination of the CSCSC has continued for over 30 years, due to the dedication of our volunteers. There have been many changes throughout the 30 year existence of this organization, but volunteers have remained a constant support. This includes the many volunteers that have accepted positions on the board of directors. Going forward, it is hopeful that the CSCSC will remain dedicated to supporting the seniors of the area.

As quoted from Bonnie Norrie in the Chairman’s Report of October 2014…

‘ Giving is the best part of being and living and someday you may be the one who needs to be on the receiving end of that special someone who cares enough to give to you.’
