The competent teacher is an ethical and reflective practitioner who exhibits professionalism; provides leadership in the learning community; and advocates for students, parents or guardians, and the profession.
This artifact was created for one of my Special Education courses that I took Spring of 2022. For this class we were given the task to create and present a poster at Elim Christian Services for their professional development day. I chose to present the assessment Essential For Living. Not only did we have the opportunity to create a video to present to staff and faculty at Elim, but we also were able to present it on Trinity's campus at OPUS during the Spring of 2022. In order to create this poster, I did a lot of research. I found five main areas to focus on about the assessment. If you look at my poster and watch the video below you will be able to learn and see the areas that I focused on.
Knowledge Indicator 9I of Teaching Standard 9 states that the competent teacher "models professional behavior that reflects honesty, integrity, personal responsibility, confidentiality, altruism and respect." Through creating this poster, I became very aware of the thought that goes into choosing the proper assessment for students and which one would be the best choice. These indications is what I hope and prayed would be shown through the work done through my poster but also with my classmates.
This artifact demonstrates clear understanding of reflecting integrity, responsibility, and respect. Through creating this artifact, I have learned that I need to have confidence in myself and find all information that will cover all question and the knowledge my peers will need to know.
This artifact was created for my class that I student taught Spring of 2023. In the newsletter, I communicate to parents and families what the students will be learning in the up coming week, homework assignments and important dates. This particular news letter is for a student who has a modification for spelling. They receive 10 words instead of 20.
Knowledge Indicator 9M of Teaching Standard 9 states that the competent teacher " communicates relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents or guardians, and peers, using a variety of technology and digital-age media and formats." The newsletter demonstrates communication with students, parents or guardians. The newsletter goes home as a paper copy and is also located on the classroom homepage using our online platform.
This artifact demonstrates clear understanding of communicating with students, parents or guardians outside of the classroom. Through creating this artifact, I have learned how to keep information organized but also a way students know where to look each week for information in the upcoming week.
