The competent teacher plans and designs instruction based on content area knowledge, diverse student characteristics, student performance data, curriculum goals, and the community context. The teacher plans for ongoing student growth and achievement.
This artifact is an email invite to a MTSS, multi-tiered support system, held November 12. During my novice teaching at Southwest Chicago Christian, I had the opportunity to participate in all MTSS meeting for all grade levels and students. This covered students in all grades and some that I was also working with directly in small groups. I was able to also collaborate in the meeting and then report back with how things were going in small groups as well.
Knowledge Indicator 3F of Teaching Standard 3 states that the competent teacher "understands how to co-plan with other classroom teachers, parents or guardians, paraprofessionals, school specialists, and community representatives to design learning experiences." This is what we planned and collaborated with each other in these meetings. We found ways to better support and address students needs. It also shows that I have met the indicator 3P "works with others to adapt and modify instruction to meet individual student needs."
This artifact demonstrates clear understanding of collaboration with others and working to find the best ways to support students. Through this artifact I have learned so much from teachers and how important the collaboration is when differentiating instructions for students. Collaborating with other staff has really been a blessing and seeing what all I've learned and continue to learn through them is amazing.
This artifact was created for a history methods class that I took in the spring of 2021. For this artifact we were to create a lesson with technology and specifically think of students who have a 504 or IEP. The lesson details generalized for students who may be struggling readers or have visual impairments and need some modifications to their assignments.
Knowledge Indicator 3C of Teaching Standard 3 states that the competent teacher "understands cultural, linguistic, cognitive, physical, and social and emotional differences, and considers the needs of each student when planning instruction." In this lesson I used prior knowledge of students to understand their knowledge already known with a KWL chart and focused on helping them understand more about the Twin towers. It shows the different physical abilities of students and where they may need more supports especially when using technology to better assist them in their learning.
This artifact demonstrates clear understanding of evaluating students prior knowledge and adjusting to what students know and how to better help them grow and learn in a specific area. Each student comes with their own knowledge and will need help in different areas and to be able to adjust and make modifications and accommodations based on their learning plans is something we all as teachers need to do.
