High School Experience Sessions

Making Science Assessment Meaningful in High School

Explore formative assessment practices that inform instruction and support learners to expand meaningful opportunities to learn science in high school. Participants will build a shared understanding of features of equitable NGSS assessment, analyze students' ideas using an asset-based lens, and identify ways assessments and assessment practices can support equitable teaching and learning.

Assessing in Multiple Dimension in High School

The session will focus on looking at how using assessments that include more NGSS dimensions affects student learning and informs teachers. A graphic organizer tool will be used to analyze assessments from life, physical, and/or earth science whether they are 1, 2, or 3-dimensional. We will then discuss both the non-negotiable elements of an assessment system and the variables which can be altered. Near the end of the session we will look at how to adapt assessments to include these non-negotiables and modify them using the NGSS grade band matrices.
