CA NGSS Implementation #1: Building Student Sensemaking Through Disciplinary Literacy

The CA NGSS PL#1 was offered in 2021-2022 during the COVID-19 pandemic and had a focus on building student sensemaking through disciplinary literacy in science. This has been and still is a critical topic for the continued growth and implementation of the California Next Generation Science Standards. Four strands were developed to address literacy including using text, argumentation, discourse and notebooking. In each strand, participants engaged with: the specific topic and strategies for implementation; discussion and assessment of strategies; sharing and collaboration time with colleagues; and planning time. This archived series is available to educators.
