Pre-Reading:
“Crisis management has become a defining feature of contemporary governance. In times of crisis, communities and members of organizations expect their leaders to minimize the impact of the crisis at hand, while critics and bureaucratic competitors try to seize the moment to blame incumbent rulers and their policies. In this extreme environment, policy makers must somehow establish a sense of normality, and foster collective learning from the crisis experience.”
"Our adversaries can be expected to take action to set the conditions to their advantage." - JP 5-0

Each group will evaluate their assigned crisis by applying the five criteria listed in the article “How to Lead Through a Crisis”.
Groups will prepare a 5 min brief addressing the military response to their assigned crisis using this framework and applying the “funnel” concept beginning with the Department of the Air Force until they reach the bottom of the “funnel” at the organization.
Funnel Concept: Flow of action/info from DAF -> MAJCOM -> Wing -> Local (Unit/Org)
At the organization level, describe the SNCO’s role related to each criterion.
Consider the following to be addressed:
What was done well and not done well regarding each crisis response?
If you could pick one, which criteria is the most important and why?
Which criteria is the most challenging and why?
How could you apply Critical Thinking to crisis response?
What about Creative Thinking or Ethical Decision Making?
