The Basics
We hire international staff who have a J1 visa. International staff must go through either Camp America or Camp Leaders.
There are two types of J1 visas, camp counselor and camp power/ support. Applicants with a camp power/ support J1 visa can only work in support positions, such as kitchen assistant, facilities assistant, and media/office specialist. Applicants with J1 camp counselor visa work with directly with campers in positions such as unit (general) counselor, unit leader, aquatic specialist, adventure specialist, and program specialists.
Historically we have had about a third of our staff be international.
Salaries for international staff are different then the one listed under "jobs at camp" due to the camp having to pay a fee to agencies. We do still pay more than what Camp America and Camp Leaders sets as the minimum pocket money.
If you live oversees, but have an American Passport or Dual Citizenship, you typically do not need to go through an agency.
