So, your child is interested in working at camp this summer, but you're not totally sure. Here are some common questions parents have to ease your mind, and hopefully convince you and your child that they could be a great fit for camp this summer!
Will my young adult be able to come home at all? Absolutely! Staff have time off on the weekends where they are free to travel home or be picked up/visited. Limited bus seats will also be available on weekends for staff to chaperone campers to the Maryland and Virginia bus stops, providing transportation out of the camp area for those staff members.
How will I get in touch with them? There is limited service in the Mt. Solon area, so some staff struggle to send and receive texts or calls. Camp does have basic internet access available to staff members, and the postal system runs regularly in the area allowing for letters and packages.
Why is working at camp beneficial? Working at camp is an opportunity to reap benefit after benefit. Not only is it an chance to live and work in the outdoors for the summer, but counselors have a unique leadership experience as well as the chance to meet new people they probably wouldn't cross paths with otherwise.
Why choose camp over an internship or retail job? Working at camp is a chance to gain professional experience while also making connections to your peers and the world around you. Counselors learn hands on leadership skills as well as a number of outdoor skills difficult to learn elsewhere such as backpacking, canoeing, natural rock-climbing, and so much more. Camp is also a stable job that provides food, housing, and a weekly pay rather than hourly, making it a perfect option for most people looking for a fulfilling and fun job opportunity.
