4 Sep 20 My thanks go to Peter at www.simplyspitfire.com for kindly measuring the Oil Pressure gauge on their replica Spitfire and getting me out of a hole.
25 Aug 20 - I have been playing with the 3D printed version of the Oil Pressure Gauge - recoding the openSCAD model that I designed last year to make it more readable, and also quicker to render.
Rendering the top fascia block at full resolution still takes over an hour on my i7 Macbook ! You need to have a high resolution on the arched meter front and then print with a low layer height or it will look as if it is made of Lego bricks and need a lot of sanding and filling.
I have split the model into multiple parts which can be rendered separately and then imported into the full assembly - or reworked for use within other components e. g the Fuel Pressure Gauge which physically just needs different top and bottom labels and a new meter scale image.
I need to sort out the infill when slicing the STL file but I am quite happy with the initial 3D print of the dial fascia. OilPressureGaugeV12.scad with the corrected external dimensions will soon be up on my dropbox
