Techniques

Backwards Loop Cast On

Also known as the “e-cast on” because you simply make a loop that looks like a lower-case letter “e” and put the loop on the right-hand needle. The resulting stitch is a little tight when you come to it in the next row, but just wiggle it a bit to loosen it up enough to knit.

Three-needle Bind Off

Slide half of the stitches to one end of the circular needle so that there are 31 stitches at each end of the needle.

With right sides facing each other, hold the needles parallel. Insert the tip of a third needle into the first stitch of the needle closest to you, then into the first stitch of the other needle. Knit two stitches together, so that you have one stitch on the third (right hand) needle.

Then, *knit the first stitch from each needle together.

Now you have two stitches on the third needle. Pass the previous stitch over the newer stitch. Repeat from * until one stitch remains. Cut the yarn and pull the tail through this stitch.
