1 ball Cascade 220 #8267

1 ball Trendsetter Aura #8272

US #8 circular needles 16”

US #8 double-pointed needles

Tapestry needle

Small amounts of novelty yarns for decorations on the tree. (Sample uses Crystal Palace “Fling” and Berroco “Sizzle Bright”)

Gauge

4 sts per inch in stockinette stitch. To save time, check gauge.

Directions

Cast on 60 [70] stitches with Cascade 220. Join the round being careful not to twist.

Knit each round for 6 rounds for hat band.

Add one strand of Aura and knit each round for 7”. Place a marker.

Begin decreases, switching to double-pointed needles when necessary:

* Knit 8 stitches, knit 2 together, repeat from * to end of round – 54 [64] stitches.

Knit 7 rounds.

* Knit 7 stitches, knit 2 together, repeat from * to end of round – 48 [58] stitches.

Knit 5 rounds.

* Knit 6 stitches, knit 2 together, repeat from * to end of round – 42 [52] stitches.

Knit 5 rounds.

* Knit 5 stitches, knit 2 together, repeat from * to end of round – 36 [46] stitches.

Knit 5 rounds.

* Knit 4 stitches, knit 2 together, repeat from * to end of round – 30 [40] stitches.

Knit 3 rounds.

* Knit 3 stitches, knit 2 together, repeat from * to end of round – 24 [34] stitches.

Knit 3 rounds.

* Knit 2 stitches, knit 2 together, repeat from * to end of round – 18 [28] stitches.

Knit 3 rounds.

*Knit 1 stitch, knit 2 together, repeat from * to end of round – 12 [22] stitches.

Continue to knit 2 together until 6 stitches remain.

Cut yarn, pull through remaining stitches and secure.

Tie small pieces of novelty yarn to the tree for ornaments. Use a crochet hook and chain novelty yarn to make a garland for the tree. Secure garland to the tree using sewing thread to tack the garland at intervals.
