The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is a very important document made by the United Nations in 1948 after World War II.
It set out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected, including the right to live safely, to speak freely, to go to school, and to work.
The UDHR has a short introduction (preamble) and 30 articles. Each article explains one right in simple words.
It was fundamental for the creation of laws and policies we have nowadays protecting human rights in our countries.

The European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) is one of the most important legal documents in Europe.
Created in 1950 after World War II, it was designed to protect people's basic rights and freedoms (e.g.right to life, freedom of expression, and a fair trial).
What makes the ECHR unique is that individuals can take their case to a special court, the European Court of Human Rights, if they believe their rights have been violated.
