Internship Opportunity
Botnetorget Food & Horticulture
March 1st – October 1st, 2026 (approx. 5–7 months)
Are you interested in learning how to grow vegetables, herbs, berries, and fruit using regenerative methods—without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers?
Take a look through our page, and if it resonates with you, we’d love to hear a bit about who you are and why you’re interested in joining us at Botnetorget for an internship.
This internship is ideal for anyone considering regenerative organic gardening (market gardening) as a hobby or potential career path. You'll gain hands-on experience with the essential skills needed throughout the growing season, along with classroom-based learning that dives deeper into topics like soil health, organic certification, and farm economics.
At Botnetorget, we aim to create a sociocultural learning environment where interns and volunteers can explore topics and tasks while sharing different perspectives and challenges.
We’re not able to offer paid positions for the 2025 season, but we’re working towards being able to provide compensation starting in 2026.
What is a Market Garden? A Brief Overview
A market garden is typically defined by the following characteristics:
Intensive and space-efficient cultivation on less than 1 hectare (approx. 2.5 acres).
A wide variety of high-quality, high-value vegetables—often 20 or more different crops.
In the first year, the land is usually prepared by plowing/harroving or covering with silage tarps for over a year to suppress perennial weeds and reduce weed seeds.
For the production years, permanent growing beds are established—often with standard dimensions—to build living soil. This includes minimal soil disturbance, compost application, and organic mulching.
Season extension is common, using greenhouses or tunnels, and crops that can be harvested multiple times per season (e.g., salad greens, baby leafs, root vegetables).
Startup costs are generally low, with minimal mechanization. Over time, most growers invest in small tunnels, seedling propagation spaces, irrigation systems, cold storage, hand tools, and walk-behind tractors suited for permanent bed systems.
A strong focus is placed on workflow efficiency, good planning, and effective use of space to support profitability.
Produce is primarily sold directly to customers through farmers’ markets, REKO-rings, CSA programs, farm stands, and local restaurants.
About the program
The program combines lectures, farm visits, and practical training in the skills required to run a certified organic market garden. Interns will be actively involved in daily operations throughout the entire growing season, in addition to participating in lectures and training sessions from professionals.
In addition to knowledge of market gardening, participants will receive training in financial management, marketing, and budgeting for agricultural products. The long-term goal is to fully qualify individuals with little or no prior experience to become gardeners or small-scale farmers

Between theory and practice lies the space where understanding, reflection, mastery, and identity are formed.
We’re inspired by John Dewey’s concept of “learning by doing.” He highlighted the importance of reflecting on experiences as a key step in changing habits and gaining new knowledge.
Our educational goals for the internship are:
To explore and adapt topics that inspire both ourselves and our fellow students.
To facilitate a positive socio-cultural learning environment, enabling us to share many different perspectives on the same problem, issue, or phenomenon.
To work systematically to build networks and establish connections with interns and volunteers.
To consciously engage students in using their whole body and all their senses
