Paul Dixon is a new graduate student in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Texas Tech University who joined the lab in July, 2026. Originally from Jamaica, he earned a B.Sc. in Physics with a minor in Mathematics from the University of the West Indies and an M.Sc. in Physics from the University of Southern Mississippi, where his research examined radiation pressure in Cepheid stars. His academic and research interests span biophysics, electrophysiology, neurodiagnostics, biotechnology, and diagnostic medical imaging.
Within the Membrane-to-Cell Bio-Intelligence Laboratory, Paul investigates the electromechanical behavior of lipid membranes, with particular interests in membrane capacitance, nonlinear electrophysiology, and memory-like behavior in biological membranes. His research integrates patch-clamp electrophysiology of lipid membranes with computational data analysis and molecular dynamics simulations to understand how membranes respond and adapt to electrical stimulation.
Before joining Texas Tech, Paul worked as a Certified Surgical Neurophysiologist, monitoring the electrical activity of the nervous system during complex spinal procedures. This clinical neurodiagnostic experience motivated him to pursue a deeper understanding of the fundamental physics underlying biological function. Through his doctoral research, Paul aims to bridge fundamental biophysics with applications in biotechnology, neurodiagnostics, and diagnostic medical imaging, positioning his work at the interface of physical science, biological research, and medical technology.
