Kate joined the graduate program in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Texas Tech University and our research group in August 2026. She earned her B.S. in Applied Physics from Yale University, with a concentration in biophysics. Her undergraduate thesis focused on phase separation in polyethylene glycol–dextran systems and the mechanics of actin networks.
Kate is particularly interested in applying biophysical approaches to understanding human diseases. Her interest in this field was inspired by personal experiences with family members affected by serious illnesses, including leukemia and dementia. She hopes to explore how physical principles can provide new perspectives on disease mechanisms.
Originally from Sweetwater, Texas, approximately two hours from Lubbock, Kate has been a longtime Texas Tech fan. She is excited to return to West Texas to pursue her Ph.D. and contribute to the group's research in biophysics.
